VITALY TENENEV, EFIAP,

PSA STAR, HON. FPSG

Vitaly Tenenev was born in 1946 in the city of Kursk, Russia. As a photographic artist he works chiefly with black and white, closely interweaving creative and pictorial elements. He is a supporter of the author's creative intervention into the positive development of his art. His work is not based on windfalls or improvisations, but a result of long searches, meditations, and experiments which lead to discard the transient and minor. He does not aspire to capture the unique but sees the beauty in the ordinary.

By now his work has been presented at more than 200 international exhibitions of photographic art held in over 52 countries of the five continents. He is a winner of numerous Grand Prixs, gold, silver and bronze trophies and medals at international exhibitions. He is also honored to be awarded the world highest ranking photographic prizes: Gold Medals from the International Federation of Photographic Art and the Photographic Society of America. His prints are included into international collections presenting creative work of leading photographers, and he is published in photographic journals both in Russia and abroad. In 1995, his photographs were published in the "World Prize Winning Picture Book", published by the Photographic Society of Pakistan.

In recognition of his artistic achievements and great contribution to photographic art, the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) awarded Mr Tenenev the honorable distinctions "Artist FIAP" (AFIAP) in 1992 and "Excellence FIAP" (EFIAP) in 1995.

In speaking about photography, Tenenev said:

"Pictorial photography explores those aspects of life where the essence of things and phenomena does not depend on momentary passions or political volte-faces. It does not bind the free flight of the author's fancy in creating an art image nor does it require a translation into languages of other peoples. Thus, it is a magnificent way of imparting to the viewers the artist's reflections on people and the world we all live in. Should the artist be frank to himself and art to the service of which he is devoted , one perceives in his works not merely a photographic image, but the inner fire blazing in his heart, soul and thoughts."

Mr Tenenev gives preference to the classical manual focus cameras and has produced most of his work with a Nikon FM2. He uses a set of lenses with focal lengths from 20mm to 500mm, and various kinds of photographic film and paper.
